Moon Booties Sewing Pattern (PDF)

$ 12.00

This is a PDF downloadable pattern.

Both Child and Adult sizes are included with your purchase.

Moon Booties are the ultimate slippers; they're like puffy coats for your feet! These slip-on booties are non-foot specific and fit on either the left or right foot. The lining is slightly contoured to your foot thanks to the inner elastics at the ankle and foot bridge and the adjustable cord and toggle at the outer ankle. The foam sole insulates your feet against cold, wood, stone or ceramic floors and the insulated upper keeps your feet cozy and warm. The reinforced last and sole adds to their durability.

Make a more technical pair for camping, ski trips or harsh weather settings using outdoor waterproof or water repellent fabrics. Or, use your scraps to make a cozy scrap busting natural fiber pair for home.

Moon Booties

  • This pattern is rated intermediate due to the requirement for sewing through thick layers and maneuvering your machine foot around the thick inner foam sole.
  • Both Kid sizes sizes KA-KF (US 4 - 13.5 & 1 - 2) and Adult sizes AA-AF (US women's 4 - men's 14) are included with your purchase.
  • Pattern files are layered.
  • Projector file is included.

    LIGHT-WEIGHT DURABLE TECHNICAL BOOTIES

Main outer fabric #1 - Light-weight wind-breaker like fabrics such as nylong or polyester rip stop or taffeta; waterproof and breathable fabrics such as Gortex (or similar brand).

Reinforcement fabric #2 (Sole & Last) - Sturdy cordura pack cloth (coated if you want water repellency).

Lining fabric #3 - Light-weight, synthetic fabrics such as nylon taffeta, supplex or other wind-breaker like fabrics. You can also use the same fabric #1 that you used for the main outer if it isn't too stiff.

Insulation/ Batting - Hi-loft, polyester quilt batting that is 1/2"-3/4" (13mm-19mm) thick (1/2"/13mm for kids sizes).

Foam inner sole - 3/8"(10mm) thick roll foam (preferably salvaged or upcycled from used packing materials or 3/8"(10mm) thick neoprene foam (peel and stick option is best if purchasing rather than recycling).

SCRAP BUSTING NATURAL FIBER BOOTIES - These tend to be heavier and less lofty but can be really fun in printed fabrics. Great for kids booties. We love a good scrap-buster!

Main outer fabric #1 & lining fabric #3 - Light to mid-weight structured fabrics that aren't too stiff such as light-weight canvas, cotton poplin, quilting cotton, flannel, fleece and mid-weight linen.

Reinforcement fabric #2 (Sole & Last) - Sturdy fabrics that hold up to heavy wear such as mid to heavy-weight canvas, twill or denim.

Insulation/ Batting - Hi-loft, wool or cotton quilt batting that is 1/2"-3/4" (13mm-19mm) thick (1/2"/13mm for kids sizes).

Foam inner sole - 3/8"(10mm) thick roll foam (preferably salvaged or upcycled from used packing materials or 3/8"(10mm) thick neoprene foam (peel and stick option is best if purchasing rather than recycling).

Sundries: Polyester thread; 1/4" (6mm) woven elastic; (2) toggles - preferably with one large hole; 1/8" (3mm) elastic shock cording. Optional sundries: Temporary peel and stick basting tape or something similar for holding the foam sole in place in lieu of pins; liquid puff paint for creating a non-stick surface on the soles; seam sealant "Seam Grip" or "Tenacious Tape" for waterproof fabrics.

Tools: Fabric scissors, paper scissors (for cutting out foam); iron & ironing board; fabric clips work best but straight pins work too; tailor's chalk or fabric pen. Optional tools: Teflon or walking foot for sewing bulk or coated fabrics; zipper or narrow foot for sewing close to bulky unlevel seams; hump-jumper for sewing next to bulky foam.

Suggested sewing machine needles: A jeans needle size 110/18 or 100/16 for sewing on cordura, canvas and bulky layers; a microtex size 70/10 needle for sewing light-weight fabrics and linings.
